Asphalt Shingle Roof System
Asphalt shingles are currently the most popular type of residential roof material for a variety of reasons. They are relatively inexpensive, averaging around $4 per square foot installed. Factors that affect the installation cost are the slope of the roof, the height of the building, ease of access to the premises, complexity of the job & the type of shingles. Asphalt shingles have achieved one of the highest ratings for a roofing system that can be easily repaired & maintained.
Flat Roofs
Perkin All-Star Exteriors & Construction specializes in single-ply EPDM roofing systems for residential flat roofs. We can also add slope to existing flat roofs, and we offer energy-efficient insulation systems. We have trained techs for the installation & repair of all types of roofing systems. We install single-ply roofs for any type of flat roof. We provide one of the best covering warranties in the industry, with labor & materials covered up to 20 years or longer – depending on the materials selected.
Sloped Roofs
Low slope and steep slope describe how much a roof inclines or the slant of a roof. In downward slope roofing applications, the top has a pitch of fewer than 3 inches per foot. Steep slope means that the roof has a slope of more than 3 inches per foot. Sloped roofs need to have some hill for proper water run-off or drainage. When it rains, water has to go somewhere, and all sloped roofs require proper drainage. In low slope roofing, water is directed toward drains or downspouts, to usher water away from your home.
Professional Roof Removal
When is the removal or "tear-off" of an existing residential roof required? In most cases, a roof tear-off is required when the build-up of too many roofing layers is present. It also may be necessary to remove any part of the roofing system that is wet below the roof surface. There are other reasons to remove a roof, including local building codes and the homeowner's personal choice, but these reasons come into play much less frequently.
Almost every roofing system manufacturer specifies that their system should not be installed over an existing roofing substrate that is wet. Installing a layover roof on top of a wet roof is a poor construction practice. Leaving wet building materials in place compromises the structural aspects of any roof. There are several ways to determine whether there are wet areas of a roof. Thermal imaging is a high-tech and expensive method of locating wet areas. However, taking core samples of the wet regions is usually the easiest, affordable & most preferred way to know whether a roof is wet, damp, or dry below the surface.
The best way for homeowners to know whether their roof needs a partial or complete tear-off is to work with a professional roofing contractor. Choosing a trustworthy roofing contractor to do the work is the best place to start. At Perkins All-Star Exteriors & Construction, we have the experience to determine if we should tear-off the existing roof before adding a new roof. Some roofing companies just apply their new roof and get the job done quickly, however if the old roof needed to be replaced before the new roof applied, this can cause significant damage to your roof and will most likely shorten the lifespan of the roof.
Roof Replacement Experts – Our Promise
One thing we learned from being in business for over 35 years is that we do not fix other contractor’s mistakes. That is why we made a decision many years ago to stop offering roof repair services unless we installed the roof for the customer. Our reason is simple. Most people don’t call the roofer that installed their roof to make a repair. In many cases they have no idea who installed the roof, or maybe the roofing contractor they hired is now out of business. There is no way to tell what problems lie under the shingles sometimes. When someone is called to fix a leak, that person is assuming all the liability and will continue to get calls if the leak persists. Instead, we only provide an estimate for total or partial replacement. At Perkins All-Stars Exteriors & Construction, we guarantee our work and stand by it. Contact us today!
